Unlocking Campus
UIUX | ServiceThis project is a new design system developed based on our research into the JULAC Card (香港八校通) and the needs of students from the eight universities. The goal of this design is to gamify the campus exploration process while fostering deeper understanding and interaction among students from Hong Kong’s universities.
Design Process
BACKGROUND
The JULAC Card system allows students from Hong Kong’s eight universities (The University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, Lingnan University, Hong Kong Baptist University, and The Education University of Hong Kong) to freely access the other seven universities (especially their libraries) beyond their own. The system was originally intended to foster greater academic exchange. However, in practice, students mainly use the card to meet friends, visit campuses, or study in other universities’ libraries.
RESEARCH
Due to time constraints, we couldn’t visit all eight universities. However, we conducted on-site research and gathered insights by interviewing students and staff from five of the universities through questionnaires and interviews.
Students’ Expectations
Based on the pain points and expectations we identified, we found that students want to visit other universities to meet friends, explore campuses, use other schools’ facilities, and make new connections.
